At Chapter 178, the Smokin’ Aces lost the PROGRESS Tag Team Championships to Sunshine Machine, bringing an end to their third reign as champions. But it wasn’t just the gold that was lost. As the final bell rang, and the Electric Ballroom crowd gasped in disbelief and then a choir of boos sounded down on Sterling – who turned his back on his partner, on the tag division, and on the legacy of the Aces.

Blaming Nick Riley for the defeat, Sterling stormed out, leaving his now-retiring partner in the ring to a collect his well deserved send-off. The Smokin’ Aces had once been the elite of British tag wrestling. But in that moment, Charlie Sterling made it clear: he’s done being half of anything.

Now, he’s focused solely on himself and he’s wasting no time.

This May, ‘Worth Every Pound’ Charlie Sterling enters Super Strong Style 16, PROGRESS Wrestling’s premier singles tournament, with one goal – to prove he never needed a partner to be a champion. This will be his first solo campaign in SSS16, and it comes at a moment where he has everything to gain and nothing left to lose.
