PROGRESS Wrestling - THUNDERBASTARD

THUNDERBASTARD Match – Winner earns a shot at the PROGRESS Men’s World Championship at any time, anyplace anywhere!
Connor Mills vs Gene Munny vs Kid Lykos vs Luke Jacobs vs Mark Haskins vs Tate Mayfairs vs YOICHI

The Thunderbastard match is a staple in PROGRESS Wrestling with former winners including Will Ospreay and our current Men’s World Champion, Spike Trivet. As he did, the key allows you to unlock your opportunity at anytime and anywhere. So let’s take a look at the competitors:

Connor Mills: Connor Mills returned to PROGRESS Wrestling in 2023 by attacking Spike Trivet during the Super Strong Style 16 tournament and later in the year came ever so close to winning the PROGRESS Tag Team Titles with Gene Munny. Can he kick off his 2024 by picking up his biggest win in the company yet?

Gene Munny: Gene ended his 2023 with an emotional win over his best friend Warren Banks in his retirement match. Can he use that momentum to become the Thunderbastard key holder?

Kid Lykos: Did anyone have a more eventful 2023 in PROGRESS Wrestling than Kid Lykos? After winning the SSS16 tournament with a wave of emotion, he entered a 6 month journey trying to be the one to topple Spike Trivet only to lose his mask in doing so.

Luke Jacobs: Luke Jacobs had a superb 2023 with great performances throughout including a standout match with Ricky Knight Jr at VENDETTA. Can the former ATLAS Champion add the Men’s World Championship to his list of honours utilising the Thunderbastard key?

Mark Haskins: Mark Haskins had a brilliant Super Strong Style 16 tournament making it all the way to the final and the former champion looks to return to the top of the company by unlocking his opportunity by winning the Thunderbastard this month.

Tate Mayfairs: Tate has told us his frustration at never getting a shot at the Men’s World Championship, but he has the chance to become the holder of the key here, firmly putting his feud with Simon Miller behind him.

YOICHI: Ever since his change from Yoshiki Inamura into YOICHI, the Pro Wrestling NOAH monster has shown his true dominant self. Is it his time?

Even without any gold on the line, this is absolutely massive. In their pre-match promos, GYV claimed that Sunshine Machine simply stepped into the door they left open when leaving for WWE, whilst Sunshine Machine said they won’t stand for GYV’s disrespect.

As these two teams collide at PROGRESS Wrestling Chapter 162, fans can expect a clash of styles and philosophies. Will the aerial artistry and exuberance of Sunshine Machine triumph, or will the strategic and ruthless approach of the Grizzled Young Veterans prevail?
