Lizzy Evo returned to PROGRESS Wrestling at Chapter 171, defeating Allie Katch and then attacking our PROGRESS Women’s World Champion, Rhio.
She lifted Rhio’s title over her head and told her to shine the championship up real nice, because at Chapter 172 she will be leaving with it! Just weeks before their epic clash, we sat down with Lizzy Evo…
At Chapter 171, you returned in dominant fashion by defeating Allie Katch. How did it feel to make such an impact in your first match back?
No matter who you put me in there with, I was always going to make an impact. Like I said before I won’t be here to mess around this time. I’m all business and money.
Allie Katch is known for her charisma and mind games, but you managed to bring out the fighter in her and didn’t fall for her tricks. What was your strategy going into that match?
My strategy was to just weaken her, I knew she wouldn’t go down without a fight so I needed to be smart with what I did. Weaken her until I gave her the Virgil Van Strijk. That’s all I needed to do.
After your win, you attacked Rhio and Emersyn Jayne, making it clear you want the PROGRESS Women’s World Championship. Why did you choose that moment to send a message?
I chose that moment to make a statement. I won’t take anything away from them, they had an absolute banger that night, but sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands in order to be heard.
How important is the PROGRESS Women’s World Championship to you?
I’m a wrestler who loves to evolve and grow, therefore collecting championships everywhere has been something that has driven me. This is no different, I’m here to make a name for myself and if that means I have to take away the title from Rhio, so be it.
By the time October 27th rolls around, Rhio will have been champion for over a year. Does the length of her reign make a potential victory over her mean that much more to you?
There’s a reason why Rhio has held the title for as long as she has, she’s a badass, and is consistent with it and I admire that in a wrestler, because I know what that takes. Rhio’s long reign makes sweeter to be the one to end her era.
Lastly, Rhio has said that your actions will bring out a side of her you won’t like… what are your thoughts on this?
I’ve been wrestling long enough now to be very much aware that a lot of people don’t particularly like me, therefore I have the same message for Rhio that I had for everyone else, join the queue of people waiting for me to give a shit, I live by my own rules and my own rules have gotten me a pretty good distance. Bring your best, because I know I will be.
