WALTER

The Journey

WALTER, known as one of the most dominant figures in professional wrestling, had a significant impact on PROGRESS Wrestling from 2016 to 2019. He made his debut in 2016 and quickly established himself as a formidable competitor with his imposing presence and hard-hitting style. Early on, he engaged in memorable matches against top talents like Big Damo and Rampage Brown, which helped solidify his reputation as a powerhouse in the promotion.

One of WALTER’s most notable contributions was as the leader of the faction RINGKAMPF, alongside Timothy Thatcher and Axel Dieter Jr. This group brought a no-nonsense, technical wrestling style to PROGRESS, and their feud with British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Trent Seven, and Tyler Bate) was a defining moment in the promotion’s history.

WALTER’s leadership and in-ring prowess during this feud showcased his ability to elevate both himself and his allies through compelling storytelling and intense matches.

WALTER’s success in PROGRESS Wrestling is highlighted by his 417-day reign as the PROGRESS World Champion, which included classic matches against the likes of Pete Dunne, Matt Riddle, and Tyler Bate.

His victory over Tyler Bate at the “Hello Wembley” event is particularly memorable, as it underscored his dominance and ability to perform on the biggest stages. Additionally, WALTER was a three-time Atlas Champion, further cementing his legacy within the promotion by unifying the titles during his reign.

His tenure in PROGRESS helped him gain international recognition, paving the way for his successful career in WWE as GUNTHER, where he continues to break records and achieve new heights.

WALTER made his PROGRESS Wrestling debut at Chapter 19: Super Strong Style 16 (24 May 2015), competing under the name Big Daddy Walter against Rampage Brown in a bruising first-round clash. Over the next five years, the Austrian powerhouse would leave behind a legacy of decimation, dominance, and world title glory.

Initially part of the Atlas Division, WALTER’s punishing style and stoic presence made him a standout. He captured the Atlas Title at Chapter 51, defeating Matt Riddle, and later unified it with the PROGRESS World Title in a landmark win over Trent Seven at Chapter 88—becoming the only man to ever hold both belts simultaneously.

Notable matches in WALTER’s PROGRESS history include:

PROGRESS Unified World Title – WALTER vs Tyler Bate (Chapter 76)

PROGRESS World Title – WALTER vs Zack Sabre Jr. (Chapter 77)

Atlas Title – WALTER vs Rampage Brown (Chapter 65)

Atlas/World Title Unification – WALTER vs Trent Seven (Chapter 88 – Title Win)

Unified World Title – Eddie Dennis vs David Starr vs WALTER (Chapter 95 – Title Loss)

Whether going chop-for-chop with Dragunov, clashing with BSS, or brutalising names like Jimmy Havoc and Eddie Kingston, WALTER brought a rare intensity few could survive. From electric showdowns at Wembley to coast-to-coast defences in the US, his reign spanned countries and crushed contenders.

Outside PROGRESS, WALTER would become a globally recognised name—holding the NXT UK Championship for over 800 days, reigning supreme in wXw, and earning acclaim worldwide for his fierce, unrelenting wrestling philosophy.

WALTER didn’t just make history—he imposed it.

And when that bell rang, the air got heavier, because WALTER was never just an opponent.

He was inevitable.
