PROGRESS Wrestling Robbo Interview: “Do you really think Simon Miller is capable of doing what the current WWE champion was not able to do?”

At CHAPTER 172 on Sunday, 27th November, Robbo will defend his Proteus Title against the “idiot looking to live out his dream”, Simon Miller. After knocking out Connor Mills in an intense and violent defence last time out… we sat down with Robbo to discuss his upcoming match this month.

The Proteus Title allows the champion to dictate the rules for each defence. You’ve shown huge flexibility in keeping the belt, wrestling different styles within your chosen rules – what can fans expect against Simon Miller?

They can expect me to knock him out. Not even his stupidly big head can save him from the inevitable!

You’ve faced a wide variety of opponents during your Proteus reign. How does Simon Miller compare to the other challengers you’ve successfully defeated?

He doesn’t. I get it though, he’s a lump of a fella and he works hard but when I think of some of the wrestlers I’ve shared the ring with, Timothy Thatcher, Homicide, Kyle Fletcher, A kid. Gunther, a fella as hard hitting as he is, he had to pin me to beat me rather than submit me or knock me out. Do you really think Simon Miller is capable of doing what the current WWE champion was not able to do?

Do you see Simon Miller as a legitimate threat to your Proteus reign?

Everyone is a threat. Just because I say he doesn’t compare to previous opponents doesn’t take away from the fact he’s coming for MY Proteus title. I just hope for his sake that he takes this as serious as I am…

Simon Miller claims you have become predictable, what do you say to that?

Does he not think others have come out with a game plan as well? I’ve wrestled for 21 years, I’ve been a part of the top companies in this country for 19 of those years. There’s hours upon hours of tape on me out there but that ain’t helped anyone yet. He got lucky attacking me after a battle with Connor Mills. It’s a different world once you’re in there opposite me.

Simon Miller has a huge fan following, particularly due to his charismatic personality outside the ring. Does his popularity outside the ring affect how you approach the match knowing how vocal the support for him will be?

Water off a ducks back. His following is the reason he’s getting this opportunity. Not like he earned it. YouTube man is my sole focus though. Must say, I know wrestling fans are stupid but it would be absurd for them to genuinely believe he’s walking out the Electric Ballroom as Proteus champion.

This will be your 11th defence of the Proteus Title. Do you feel the pressure increasing with each, or are you more confident now than ever?

If you finished 10 straight in a row how would you feel? I feel indestructible right now. There’s no man or woman in wrestling that could take my Proteus championship from me.

Looking beyond this defence, do you have a particular goal in mind for the Proteus Title, or are there other competitors you’re looking to target to further cement your legacy in PROGRESS?

Like I’ve said I’m focused on YouTube man but next I want to knock out all your favourites. Kid Lykos, RKJ, Cara Noir. Line ’em up and I’ll knock ’em down. Heck, I’d knock ’em all out on the same night.
