Doug Williams

The Journey

Doug’s PROGRESS journey began at Chapter Eight: The Big Boys Guide to Strong Style (28 July 2013), where he triumphed in a triple threat against Eddie Dennis and Darrell Allen inside the intimate confines of The Garage. Over the following years, he became a measuring stick for rising talent and a surprise contender in high-stakes matches.

In 2018, Williams launched a surprise late-career run that saw him capture the PROGRESS Atlas Championship at Chapter 69 in Manchester—outlasting three of the division’s hardest hitters. That reign became a fitting final act, capped off with an emotional farewell defeat to Trent Seven at Chapter 76: Hello Wembley, in front of the largest crowd in PROGRESS history.

Doug returned in 2021 during the closed-door Theatre Peckham era, proving he could still hang with the next generation by defeating Danny Black and going the distance in hard-hitting bouts against Chris Ridgeway.

Beyond PROGRESS, Doug Williams is a legend of British wrestling—having competed for TNA/IMPACT, NOAH, ROH, and RevPro, with reigns as X Division Champion, TV Champion, and IWGP & GHC Tag Champion. He helped pioneer the “British style” that inspired a generation, blending suplex-heavy execution with pure wrestling finesse.

In PROGRESS, Doug’s legacy was never about being the loudest or flashiest—it was about being the benchmark.
