Michael Oku: “When it comes to British Wrestling, I’m John Cena”
After nearly five years away from PROGRESS Wrestling, Michael Oku made his highly anticipated return at Chapter 175: Unboxing VII The Curtain Call. The scene at the Electric Ballroom was wild, as the crowd erupted with a thunderous ovation for Oku, who last competed in a PROGRESS ring at Chapter 101. Joining him for this monumental occasion was his valet, Amira, who made her PROGRESS debut, adding extra excitement to the return.
A Challenge For Vegas
PROGRESS makes its debut in Las Vegas, at the Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort as part of GCW’s COLLECTIVE. PROGRESS Wrestling Men’s World Champion Luke Jacobs issued a bold challenge to Michael Oku, setting the stage for an epic championship showdown that will mark Oku’s return to PROGRESS Championship contention after five long years.
“We’re gonna show PROGRESS Wrestling at its best an there’s only one man I want in that ring with me… you wanna play, then lets play in Vegas! Michael Oku me an you, one-on-one for this title!”
Michael Oku’s Response
During his absence from PROGRESS, Michael Oku has amassed an impressive list of accolades. A cornerstone of Revolution Pro Wrestling (Rev Pro), Oku captured the British Cruiserweight Championship and held it for over 1,200 days, solidifying his reputation as one of the best in the business before winning their main prize. He has also competed internationally, making appearances in prestigious promotions like New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and wrestling some of the best talents in the world.
His response to the challenge was stark…
“I can’t believe you’ve done this Luke. I was gonna walk in the doors of PROGRESS and work my way back to that title. I started my wrestling career at the PROGRESS Wrestling school, I crewed every show, I wanted to work my way back to the top. But he got a camera crew and said he wanted me in Vegas.
He said PROGRESS Wrestling at its best. That was funny, but when you think about it he’s not wrong. I am back in PROGRESS and he is the champion. We are the best. Surely Michael Oku is not going to defeat Luke Jacobs again for a Championship? Well, when it comes to British Wrestling… I’m John Cena.”
