British wrestling’s ‘Mariah Carey’ bids to be UK’s Eurovision 2023 entry

As exclusively revealed by Adam Cailler of the Daily Star, the UK’s major leading professional wrestling reporting daily newspaper, PROGRESS Wrestling Women’s Champion Lana Austin has submitted her application to represent the UK at this year’s EuroVision. https://twitter.com/dailystar/status/1633189317597097985?s=46&t=DgLyBmuyGvZwwQHWR5-1Yg

Yes, don’t rub your eyes or wobble your head, you correctly read this: Lana Austin, the UK wrestling’s answer to Mariah Carey has put her name forward to sing at the 2023 EuroVision Song Contest!

PROGRESS Wrestling fans have had the pleasure, or discomfort, of listening to Lana sing for many months now, and it is fair to say, not many expected this from the leader of the Lana Austin Experience!

But we shouldn’t be surprised, right? Our confident PROGRESS Women’s Champ is not camera shy to say the least, and she certainly believes in her own ability, whether that is in the ring or with a microphone.

“The rumours are true,” admitted a delighted Austin. “I have told the BBC and EuroVision that I want to be the official UK nominee for EuroVision in 2023.

“With my backing singers of Skye Smitson and LA Taylor, it is time for no more UK losers at EuroVision.

“It is time for the world to see the full Lana Austin Experience and for me to become the double champ!

“Everyone is so lucky that I have decided to do this!”

This year’s EuroVision is taking place from Monday 8th May – Saturday 13th May at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

The last time the UK had a winner was in 1997, Katrina and the Waves with ‘Love Shine a Light’. The question now is, what would be Lana’s choice of song?

Lee McAteer, co-owner at PROGRESS Wrestling, said: “I was lost for words when I first received the email that our women’s PROGRESS World Champion, Lana Austin, had put her name forward to officially represent the UK at EuroVision. But the more I thought about it, the more I realised that I am not shocked at all.

“As the co-owner of PROGRESS Wrestling, we always support our talent as much as we possibly can do, so this will be no different.

“In most years the UK gets nil points in EuroVision so she will be in good company if she ends up being the U.K. representative for EuroVision 2023 as I have no doubt she will also get the same amount of points as we normally do!

“I am curious as to what Skye Smitson and LA Taylor will be like as backing singers though I must admit.

“I am sure all fans of EuroVision will end up with the same opinion as me and become truly passionate about the Lana Austin Experience for many reasons!

“Just two weeks later, Lana will have the chance to return to what she is probably much better at – if she is still champion, she will be defending her Women’s World Championship title and tickets for PROGRESS Wrestling’s Super Strong Style 16 are now on sale. The event will take place from Saturday 27th over three days to Bank Holiday Monday 29th May, and you can purchase your tickets right now by CLICKING HERE.
