RKJ Breaks PROGRESS Wrestling ATLAS Championship Record

RKJ Breaks PROGRESS Wrestling ATLAS Championship Record

PROGRESS Wrestling – RKJ Breaks ATLAS Championship Record.

Current ATLAS Champion RKJ has congratulations in order as this month he celebrates becoming the longest cumulative holder of the ATLAS Championship in the history of PROGRESS Wrestling. WALTER held the championship for 274 days in total over his three reigns whilst Ricky Knight Jr has held the championship now for 295 days and counting!

Interviewed after his latest successful defence against Luke Jacobs at Chapter 160: VENDETTA, he said “It doesn’t matter where you are from I am the baddest and I will take them all on.” With his confidence through the roof and a willingness to go through the pain barrier in his matches, it looks like he could well hold the title for a long, long time… but will he be challenged by an unknown opponent at UNBOXING?

PROGRESS Wrestling’s ATLAS Championship is a championship that is distinct from other titles in the promotion due to its unique rules and eligibility criteria. The ATLAS Championship was introduced to promote a style of wrestling that emphasizes a heavyweight division without any weight limit. Here is a brief overview of the history of the PROGRESS Wrestling ATLAS Championship…

  1. Inception:
    • The ATLAS Championship was introduced in PROGRESS Wrestling to provide a platform for heavyweight wrestlers without the limitations of weight classes.
  2. Rules and Eligibility:
    • One of the key features of the ATLAS Championship is the absence of a weight limit. This allows wrestlers of all sizes to compete for the title.
    • Matches for the ATLAS Championship typically have a time limit, and if the match ends in a draw, the champion retains the title.
  3. Inaugural Champion:
    • The inaugural ATLAS Champion was Rampage Brown. He won the title on September 25, 2016, at the “We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Room… Again” event by defeating Joe Coffey in the round robin tournament finals at the 02 Brixton Academy.
  4. Title Reigns:
    • The championship has seen 11 title reigns at the time of writing, with eight different wrestlers holding the title over time. These in order of holding the Championship are Rampage Brown, Matt Riddle. WALTER, Doug Williams, Trent Seven, Luke Jacobs, Big Damo and Ricky Knight Jr.
  5. Evolution:
    • Like other championships in professional wrestling, the ATLAS Championship has been part of ongoing storylines and feuds within PROGRESS Wrestling. Wrestlers have competed in matches and tournaments to earn a shot at the title, whilst Trent Seven retired Doug Williams to win the Championship at PROGRESS Wrestling’s biggest ever show, Hello Wembley.
  6. Record Breaker:
    • Which brings us to the record breaking reign that Ricky Knight Jr is currently on!
