Leon Slater delivered a standout performance at PROGRESS Wrestling’s Chapter 169: The Devil On My Shoulder, putting on arguably the match of the night against Aigle Blanc. The thrilling encounter ended with Slater’s spectacular 450 Swanton, securing him the victory. Following his impressive win, Leon Slater sat down for an exclusive interview to discuss the match, the crowd’s reaction, his physical transformation, his current run in TNA, his upcoming match at Chapter 170, and his memories from All In last year.
Leon, congratulations on your victory! Your match with Aigle Blanc was phenomenal. How did it feel to put on such a performance and come out on top?
It felt great as always to be honest ! I saw a picture afterwards of everyone standing after the match has finished and that is my goal. I refuse to leave the ballroom without my standing o!
The reaction from the crowd during and after the match was electric. How did their energy impact your performance?
The PROGRESS fans are some of my favourites to perform in front of, I’ve always felt the love from everyone in the Electric Ballroom especially recently. It just makes me wanna go even harder every time I step through the curtain.
You’ve noticeably increased your strength and size recently. How has that helped you achieve better results in the ring?
I appreciate it! It’s been something I’ve been working towards for a while but since I’ve started working with my PT Dan Brydon he’s really helped me take it to another level. It has definitely helped me add an extra element to my game.
You’re currently having a strong run in TNA. How is that experience contributing to your growth as a wrestler?
Being at TNA has been a great experience for m so far ! Just getting to be around 20+ year veterans like Eric Young, Frankie Kazarian and Gail Kim has been such a good learning opportunity and I can’t wait to see where my journey there takes me…
You have an upcoming match with Marcus Mathers at Chapter 170. How are you preparing for that, and what can fans expect?
Fans can expect another slater banger! Marcus helped me a lot when I first started going to the States so it’s an honour to be his opponent on his first UK appearance – but like always I’m not out till I get my W and my O!
What message do you have for your fans and your fellow competitors after your match with Aigle Blanc?
The message is simple. I’m coming for Gold in 2024. Just as much for the PROGRESS fans as I am for me. This year is the year I cement myself as the youngest in charge!
