PROGRESS Wrestling Connor Mills Interview: “I’ve struggled to find my place here but I believe the Proteus title could be it”

At Chapter 171 this Sunday Connor Mills has the opportunity to become the Proteus Champion in PROGRESS when he takes on Robbo at the Electric Ballroom.

We sat down with Connor to discuss the match, his past and his future.

You’re set to face Robbo for the Proteus Title at Chapter 171. How are you preparing for it?

I’m not a stranger to this style of wrestling that Robbo’s Proteus rules require. I’ve competed in BZW’s 2023 Miracle tournament which enforces the same rules.

The Proteus Title match has the unique stipulation of tap out or knock out. How do you feel about this kind of high-stakes, brutal stipulation?

I regularly train in muay thai, which I believe gives me better preparation than any former competitor during Robbo’s reign. I enjoy and welcome this style of match.

Robbo is coming off a barbaric feud with Malik. Did you see that match and do you expect him to bring the same level of intensity to Sunday?

I saw that match and I expect nothing less. In fact I expect more brutality and violence.

Robbo thrives in violent, hardcore settings. What’s your strategy for countering his aggressive style, especially in a match with no pinfalls?

I believe weight classes truly make a difference and in other combat sports, me and Robbo would be separated by a fair few. I plan on using that size advantage.

Robbo beat you five years ago at Chapter 90 but you are a very different Connor Mills now… how do you describe your evolution since then?

Robbo has wins over me and I have wins over him. I am a totally different wrestler than when we last met.

What would it mean for you to win the Proteus Title, and what would your stipulation be?

It would be incredibly meaningful for me to win the title. I’ve been in and out of PROGRESS since I was 18 years old & honestly at 25 after almost 7 years, I’ve struggled to find my place here but I believe the Proteus title could be it. I would naturally want to select rules like Robbo’s but I guess I couldn’t repeat it, so perhaps British round rules as I’m an extremely confident technical wrestler.

PROGRESS Wrestling tickets are available for all future shows via the dice app, including this Sunday’s Chapter 171 event.
