SSS16 Finalist Leon Slater Becomes TNA X Division Champion
Leon Slater’s 2024 has already been one for the history books and now, it’s just become iconic.
This past weekend, Slater added the biggest accolade of his young career to his growing résumé by capturing the TNA X Division Championship, a title synonymous with high-flying greatness, innovation, and the likes of legends such as Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, and perhaps most fittingly, AJ Styles. With Styles present for the moment, Slater’s crowning as champion felt like a true passing of the torch from a pioneer to a prodigy.
For PROGRESS Wrestling fans, Slater’s ascent is no surprise.
From the first time he stepped between the ropes at The Dome in 2022, Slater has turned heads with his unmatched pace, gravity-defying offence, and raw passion for the game. But it was his electrifying run in this year’s Super Strong Style 16 that truly marked his evolution. Surviving one of the most gruelling tournaments in wrestling, he made it all the way to the final, falling just short to 0121 stablemate Man Like Dereiss, but earning the respect of fans and peers alike.
Since then, Slater has continued to impress in both singles and tag team action across the UK and abroad, bringing that same hunger to every match. His X Division title win isn’t just a personal milestone, it’s a signal to the wrestling world that Leon Slater is here, and he’s leading the next generation.
At just 20 years old, with the X Division title over his shoulder and the full wrestling world watching, the future is blindingly bright for the former SSS16 finalist.
Congratulations, Leon – from everyone at PROGRESS Wrestling.
