Post-show it became clear that he had plans to tag with Session Moth Martina instead… we sat down with Gene Munny to discuss that weekend, his partnership with Martina and their upcoming match with Sunshine Machine!
Gene, you’ve parted ways with Taishi Ozawa, leaving him to fend for himself at Chapter 171. Can you explain what led to that decision, and why you felt it was time to disown him as your ‘biological son’?
That boy was my flesh and my blood and my juices. I birthed him. I gave him the world and he ruined it. Disappointed me. A waste of my virile seed. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was one that needed to be made. He’s now back in Japan; and more importantly, dead to me.
You’ve teamed with Taishi Ozawa for a while, but now you’re partnering with Session Moth Martina. What makes Martina a better fit as your tag partner, and how does your dynamic differ from what you had with Taishi?
Uh actually, Mr Progress Reporter Man, I think you’ll find I’ve teamed with Ozawa and Moth the same amount at PROGRESS. Once. And if you’d asked me this a couple of months ago, I’d say it was once too many. HOWEVER, myself and The Moth have a common interest right now. It’s unheard of, but we’re actually on the same page right now. Whereas Ozawa just wanted the love and warmth of a caring father, when frankly, he should have wanted to be a better son to the BEST IN SHOW.
What did you make of Chuck Mambo’s mishap at Chapter 171 that cost SAnitY their PROGRESS tag team titles?
I try to be a bit of a comedian in the ring, but JAYSUS, Mambo has me beat with how hard he twatted Damo. Had me in stitches. Genuinely, the funniest thing I’ve seen at PROGRESS since I heard Dereiss call himself the Lyrical Dragon… when he only sings the lyrics to one song. What a div.
Sunshine Machine are known for their teamwork and athleticism, but you and Martina bring a more chaotic style. How do you plan to counter Sunshine Machine’s precision in the ring?

Have you and Session Moth got your eyes on the titles yourselves or is your personal goal simply to put the nail in the coffin of British wrestling like you said post 171?
As much as I hate myself for giving her a compliment, Moth is constantly overlooked in this company because of how “entertaining” she naturally is. I also happen to know how that feels, don’t I PROGRESS? I’m not gonna tell you how all this ends, but it’s time for things to change.
Finally, with your search for a new ‘son’ ongoing, is there anyone in PROGRESS or beyond that you have your eye on, or are you waiting for the right moment to make that decision?
It is true that I am on the hunt for a new son. He or she must be strong, handsome, impressive, and not a huge fucking disappointment like Ozawa. My eyes are open to everyone that fits the bill.
