PROGRESS Wrestling Leon Slater Interview: “When I get the belt itโ€™s gonna be total nonstop action ๐Ÿ‘€”

Leon Slater delivered another standout performance at PROGRESS Wrestling’s Chapter 170: Wrestling Never Sleeps, putting on a quality opening match against Marcus Mathers. The thriller ended with Slater’s spectacular 450 Swanton, securing him the victory. Following his impressive win, Leon Slater sat down for an exclusive interview to discuss the match, the crowd’s reaction, his quest for gold, his thoughts on Luke Jacobs and the other title contenders and what a PROGRESS ran by Leon Slater would look like!

Leon, congratulations on your win against Marcus Mathers at Chapter 170! You and Marcus are known to be good friends outside of the ring. How did it feel to go head-to-head with a friend in his UK debut?

Mathers helped me a bunch on my first tours of the states so it was nice to return the favour!

You had the challenge of opening the show and once again received a standing ovation from the PROGRESS crowd after another win. What does it mean to you to have such strong support from the fans? How does that energy from the crowd impact your performance in the ring?

I feel like standing ovation is almost routine for me at this point and having the support from the progress faithful means the world to me!

After your match, you both shared a moment of mutual respect. What do you think the future holds for Marcus Mathers?

I honestly think Mathers will be able to do whatever he wants in wrestling he is wicked!

You’ve made it clear that youโ€™re coming for championship gold in PROGRESS Wrestling and you made that message clear by confronting Luke Jacobs at the end of the show. Several others also stepped up to Luke Jacobs, including Eddie Dennis, Man Like Dereiss, KENTA, and Cara Noir. What are your thoughts on each of these competitors, and how do you see them as potential challengers for the PROGRESS Men’s Championship?

I think the PROGRESS roster is the strongest itโ€™s been in a long time and Iโ€™m proud to be a part of it. I respect everyone in that line up but at the end of the day they are obstacles to my goal you get me!

Cara Noir made his surprise return at Chapter 170, which was a significant moment for the fans and the roster. What was it like being in the ring for that moment?

Wicked pop!

Luke Jacobs is currently at the top of the mountain as the PROGRESS Men’s Champion. Whatโ€™s your opinion of Luke as a champion? What strengths do you think he brings to the role, and what weaknesses do you think you could exploit in a potential match against him?

If this was a few months ago, Iโ€™d have an answer but I don’t know this Luke…

If you were to win the PROGRESS Men’s Championship, what would your vision be for PROGRESS Wrestling? How would you like to shape the future of the company as its champion?

I would make it a legitimate world title and defend it around the globe. When I get the belt itโ€™s gonna be total nonstop action ๐Ÿ‘€
