2023 has been very eventful for PROGRESS Wrestling, and here’s a review of some of the key highlights from the year:
- Roster Evolution and New Talents: PROGRESS saw an influx of new wrestlers, each bringing unique styles and charisma. This infusion of fresh talent helped to diversify match types and storytelling, making events more unpredictable and exciting. Those making their PROGRESS debut in 2023 were: KC Navarro, Trew & Lacey, Francesco Akira, Jack Bandicoot, QT Marshall, Matthew Rehwoldt, Lio Rush, Renee Michelle and Aleah James.
- Championship Scenes: The championship landscape saw significant shifts, and new champions were crowned in two of the divisions., and the Tag belts changed hands multiple times, showcasing the competitive nature of the promotion. The women’s division, changing from Lana Austin to Rhio, in particular, received a big focus, with several standout matches and storylines. The two Men’s belts remained with Spike Trivet and Ricky Knight Jr. though, highlighting the strength of both Champions.
- Match Quality and Storytelling: 2023 was marked by a series of critically acclaimed matches. The storytelling aspect of wrestling was elevated, with more nuanced and layered narratives that captivated the audience. Long-term feuds, surprising turns, and emotionally charged rivalries were key highlights – and these will play into 2024 with strong effect.
- International Collaborations: PROGRESS continued to collaborate with other wrestling promotions around the world. These partnerships brought international talents to PROGRESS events and allowed PROGRESS wrestlers to showcase their skills on global platforms, increasing the promotion’s visibility and reputation. We have worked closely with DEFY, TNA (IMPACT) Warrior and GCW of the USA, with wXw of Germany, SAJ of Italy, and Rixe and ACP of France; as well as a deeply growing collaboration with Pro Wrestling NOAH.
- DEMAND PROGRESS PLUS: PROGRESS Wrestling strengthened its online presence, with enhanced digital content via our new DEMAND PROGRESS PLUS platform.
- Looking Forward to 2024: As 2023 closed PROGRESS Wrestling is poised for further growth. Plans for the next year include our show in Philadelphia – Chapter 166: FREEDOM WALKS AGAIN as part of the GCW organised Collective, furthering our international expansion, and continuing our focus on nurturing homegrown talent. All of our historic content will be released on DEMAND PROGRESS PLUS over the next few months, and new promotions will be appearing too. We also plan to have our first live-streaming very soon to provide wider access to those who can’t always attend our live shows.
