At SUPER STRONG STYLE 16 Gene Munny had a rollercoaster of a weekend, suffering a loss in the tournament on day one an then bouncing back by winning the Rufus Hound Underdog Over The Top Rope Battle Royale. But at what cost to his psyche?
We sat down with Gene Munny to discuss that weekend, his past and his future.
You had an eventful SSS16 weekend but let’s start with the positives! You broke your losing streak on day 2 in the Rufus Hound Underdog Over The Top Rope Battle Royale. How did that feel?
Let’s be honest, I AM THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS CHAMPION IN BRITISH WRESTLING TODAY and on Day 2; for the first time in a PROGRESS Wrestling ring, it actually felt like it. I beat Aigle Blanc, Mike D, TK Cooper, Leon Slater, Ozawa, Connor Mills, and KC Navarro in one night. Who else can say that? Who?
Can you reveal what Rufus whispered to you in order for you to change your mind and enter the match? Did it play a part in what happened between you after the match too?
You wanna tell me everything that people have whispered to you? Secrets exist for a reason. If it was public, he woulda yelled it. Grow up. Ya see, when Hound came over and gave me moustache tickles on the cochlea, I was feeling sorry for myself. Sad boi. Angry boi. No tail wagging.
I needed hope. I needed a sign. The funny man had both for me. All I say is, he passed me my belt when I needed it… and the rest is history.
Going back to day 1 and the tournament itself, you faced a good friend Kid Lykos II in a losing effort. Did that affect you in the match do you feel?
No. It doesn’t matter if Lykos II is a friend of mine, beating him up brings me unparalleled joy.
However, I’m a different dog now. Day 1 of Super Strong Style 16 is officially irrelevant now. Move on. It’s over.
Retiring Warren Banks must definitely have affected you when you went on another losing streak after it. Do you think this time is different?
HOW F*CK*NG EMBARRASSING IS IT TO HAVE TWO LOSING STREAKS ACKNOWLEDGED WITHIN 8 MONTHS?!
Do you think that’s nice? Do you think I enjoy that?
All I try to do in this business; in this company, is my best. You think I don’t wanna get profiled as a top guy? You think I don’t wanna win championships? You think I’ve got a kink for staring at the ceiling? You pervert!
Before Super Strong Style 16, my last win was against my best mate in his retirement match. I took his career and looked to actually make something of it… except I was made to feel like I failed him. I was made to feel like I’d pissed on the grave of his career.
I’m not going to tell you that it’ll be different. I’m going to show you.
